SDR Airband Demodulator
Real-time audio output of aviation radio communication.
The RTL-SDR used for the implementation of the flight radio demodulator is a cost-effective Software-Defined Radio (SDR) with a consumer purchase price of approximately €25. This SDR can be dynamically reconfigured within the frequency range of 24-1800 MHz through a USB interface, and it outputs received HF signals in digitized form as I/Q signals.

The requirements for the flight radio demodulator were defined as follows:
-
Demodulation of the A3E double sideband-modulated aviation radio signal.
-
Real-time output of the aviation radio through an audio interface for Linux devices (44.1 kHz).
-
Selection option for signals within the reception range.
Live aviation radio on the home computer
Unser Beitrag
-
Design of driver software to interact with the SDR

-
Implementation of a scanning routine that captures aviation radio signals with sufficient reception strength

-
Digital demodulation and filtering of a desired aviation radio signal

-
Reduction of negative influences of the SDR on the signal through average filtering and offset tuning

-
Resampling of the signal to 44.1 kHz
The set goals of the flight radio demodulator software have been achieved.

-
The application detects signals within the frequency range of 108 - 137 MHz within 2 seconds

-
Demodulation and output of the signal occur in real-time

-
A good signal-to-noise ratio has been achieved for a pleasant listening experience
